Apple announced the launch of the iTunes Store in the UAE came as a surprise ending the iTunes drought in the Gulf countries since iTunes were released nine years ago in the USA.
Nine years after its launch in the US, the iTunes Store is now available in the UAE and across some of the other markets in the GCC (including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman), featuring local artists such as Nancy Ajram, and Amb Diab. The pricing of individual tracks starts from Dh4 while albums begin at Dh18 in the UAE.
International artists including The Beatles, Taylor Swift and Coldplay, and world-renowned classical musicians including Lang Lang, Yo Yo Ma and Yuja Wang are also available among the 20 million songs available to purchase and download.
However, films and TV shows are still not available for customers in this region.
